Product description: Xenical is a prescription weight loss medication based on Orlistat, which acts as a Lipase Inhibitor by letting part of the fat consumed pass through the intestine without being absorbed. Xenical is usually prescribed to people who are considered clinically obese, and have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher. Xenical has proven to be effective and especially suitable for patients suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease, as it is not stimulating the metabolic rate of the patient. Xenical is the only weight loss medication on the market that is approved for treatment of obesity in high-risk patients.
Xenical is available on prescription only due to its containing a high dose of the active ingredient Orlistat. However, in February 2007 the FDA approved a lower dosage medicine, Alli, which is available without prescription.
Caution: Do not use Xenical if you are pregnant, nursing or have problems absorbing food, gallbladder disease, anorexia or bulimia.
Possible side effects: An increased number of bowel movements, oily spotting between bowel movements, urgent need to go to the bathroom. These usually go away after 4 weeks of therapy. |
